Empowerment

One of the things I love most about CrossFit is how it empowers women.  There’s nothing better than watching someone go from “I have no upper body strength.  Will I really ever be able to do a pull up?” to “Holy crap!  I can do it!!!”

I remember when I first started CrossFit.  The jumping pull-ups wore me out. My deadlift 1RM (one rep max) was 145lbs.  I could only use the 30lbs bar for Fran, a benchmark workout involving pull-ups and 65# thrusters.  Fast forward to right before my wreck. I could do butterfly pull-ups.  My deadlift went up to 245lbs.  I could do Fran Rx in under 7 min.  It’s incredible what that does for someone’s self-esteem.

Before CrossFit, I felt insecure, out of shape, and out of control.  I was bartending, partying, and living for the moment.  Don’t get me wrong, it was a lot of fun, and I had some amazing experiences.  The problem is I was living a life without purpose, without goals.  You can only live that way for so long before the party gets old and you start thinking, “What the hell am I doing with my life?”

CrossFit made me want to do more with my life.  I quit worrying about aesthetics and starting focusing on performance.  I began to value my health over the next party.  Now, I own my own gym and get the opportunity to coach people to greatness everyday.  My life is a different kind of fun, a healthy fun.

To all the ladies out there that think they’re too out of shape, too old, too busy, too _________:

You have one life to live. It’s up to you how you want to live it.  CrossFit won’t make you bulky.  The only way you’ll ever get bulky is if you inject testosterone aka steroids.  Crossfit will push you to become a better version of yourself:  a you that is fearless, capable, driven, and empowered.  The only person standing in the way of you becoming the best version of yourself….is you!  No excuses.  You can do it!
