Whole30 – Day 8

Yesterday started off beautifully.  I taught 5am, 6am, and 7am group classes, ate a delicious breakfast, got lots of paperwork for Complete Health & Rehab finished,  had a 10:30am personal training client, ate a good lunch, and then BAM!….. I hit my wall.  I’m not sure if it was the soreness in my body from Tuesday’s 2-a-day or the fact that an annoying little mosquito has taken up residence in our bedroom and feasts from my body nightly; all I know is sleep evaded me like a win eludes the Colts.  I’m like a little kid.  Keep me fed and on a sleep schedule and I’m the most optimistic, annoyingly happy girl in the world.  Let me go hungry or deprive me of sleep, and I turn into an overly sensitive, cranky mess.

Me, well fed and well rested
Me, hungry and sleepy

My husband knows I’ve been craving Sunbutter Ants-on-a-Log (celery, Sunbuter, and raisins), so he went to two HEB’s and a local health food store trying to surprise me with it (the stuff I have has cane sugar in it, which is a big no-no on the Whole30).  Well, to my dismay, he couldn’t find it anywhere.  I went online and did a search and saw they would ship it to you, but $17 for shipping doesn’t align with my Dave Ramsey inspired chintzy-ness.   I noticed they sold it at two local Target stores.  I excitedly hopped in the passenger’s side of the Smart as my husband whisked me away to super Target.  We briskly walked to the peanut butter aisle, and  there was the Sunbutter (and the choir sings, “Hallelujah”).  I looked a little closer and saw the word “natural.”  My heart dropped.  They didn’t have organic.  And then, I got teary eyed.  Chad started cracking up, “I know you’re not going to cry because they don’t have your Sunbutter.”  I didn’t say a word because I knew it was absolutely ridiculous to get weepy over something so lame, but I just couldn’t help it.  You would think I was knocked up (which I’m definitely not); the way I’m craving that stuff.  I dejectedly walked back to the car.

When we got back to the clinic, I took a little nap.  It’s amazing what a ten minute cat-nap can do for the soul.  The ADHD that lives in my brain gives me two gears:  hyper-drive and

A little nap, and I keep going and going and going and....

off.  That little nap recharged my rundown battery.  I woke up ready to take on the world!  I schmoozed with patients, taught an Elements class, and  talked to a couple of people ready to drink the CrossFit Kool-Aid. The Sunbutter snafu was a distant memory as I readied myself for a blissful night’s sleep.  Then I heard the high pitched, “Bzzzzzz….” in my ear.  Damn mosquito.

Breakfast:   fried eggs with tomato and avocado.  I drizzled EVOO and balsamic on the veggies.

Lunch:  Leftover over rosemary chicken atop a bed of spinach greens with a few slices of grapefruit.

Dinner:  Spicy jambalaya with Applegate farms chicken sausage, wild caught ginormous shrimp, and air-chilled organic “happy” chicken.  It was beyond amazing!
